Hello Waves - I'm sure by now you've heard the news that we will not be able to use the pool this summer. Rest assured, just because we don't have OUR pool doesn't mean we won't have a team! Remember the title of my last email, "The show must go on"? Well, it's almost showtime, and the Woodley Gardens Waves WILL be swimming as a team! The times, days and locations of our practices will look different this year, but the Woodley team spirit will be the same! Our swim team board held a meeting last night and there are several promising developments to report: 1. There are multiple pools relatively close to Woodley that can serve as daily practice locations for our swimmers. We are speaking regularly with the various pool reps, and they are in talks with their boards. We hope to have a practice plan we can share with you in the next couple of weeks. 2. MCSL teams are offering their full support. Our A-reps have connected with our other Division team reps, and we will be able to "host" our two home meets -- June 21 and July 5 -- at either our opponents pool or at a different local pool. We are reaching out to B-meet reps as well to finalize the locations of our Wednesday B-meets. 3. Tons of great ideas are circulating about team bonding events to make this a truly memorable swim season for our kids. Fun activities beyond our weekly swim meets and pep rallies are one of the things that makes Woodley so special, and the brainstorming is well underway. Be on the lookout for updates in this area as well. Our board and coaches are working hard behind the scenes to finalize all remaining details. We will circle back with you as soon as we have a plan in place. I feel very confident we will be able to have a summer that is fun and competitive for the kids. We did this back in 2019 after the fire, and we can do it again! We will always be WOODLEY STRONG! GO WAVES! Crista Oehler WGST President |
