Sean was raised by two pool managers/ swim coaches and probably made a trip or two to the pool within his first week of being alive. He swam for New Mark Commons until he was 12 years old. That summer, he (his family) made the best decision of his life by moving to Woodley Gardens. Sean immediately fell in love with Woodley the pool, Woodley the community, and Woodley the team.
Sean swam for Rockville Montgomery Swim Club, for Wootton High School, and later for the University of Maryland. While he was proud to be a member of all these teams, none held a candle to the pride he felt being a swimmer and a coach at Woodley. In 2008, Sean qualified for and competed in the Olympic Trials in the 200 butterfly.
While swimming at the University of Maryland, Sean majored in Philosophy and Business. He just completed his eighth year as a school counselor at Northwest High School in MCPS.
Maggie started swimming with Woodley Gardens in the summer of 1998. She fell in love with the team and the pool, and her childhood summers were defined by Woodley. She coached for her last four years on the team, and continued to cheer for her sisters at home meets after her Woodley graduation in 2010. Her proudest swim team memory is winning the spirit award in her final two years at Woodley.
Maggie swam for four years in high school at Georgetown Visitation, before attending the University of Maryland, College Park. She graduated from Maryland in 2013 with a degree in Architecture, and returned to UMD for her Masters of Education in 2015. She currently teaches 5th grade in Montgomery County Public Schools, and is also an instructor at the Culkin School of Irish Dance.
Maggie is thrilled to be coaching with Sean and is so excited to be part of the Woodley community once again.
Katherine's swimming career with the Waves began during summer of 2010. She loved to swim so much that she joined RMSC when she was 8 and began swimming year round. Her summers were reserved for Woodley where she would come to the pool after her morning RMSC practices and hop in the pool and continue to practice. While swimming for Woodley, Katherine earned overall high point girl swimmer 3 summers, in addition to breaking individual and relay records.
Katherine swam for Richard Montgomery High School and is currently club swimming at the University of Michigan. Katherine just finished her second year at Michigan where she is pursuing a nursing degree.
Katherine is excited to join Sean and Maggie to lead the next generation of Waves. Once a wave always a wave!
